About making Jam

As far as you know, perserving fruit in jam is the most common way of almost all people. Because fruit jam can last for a long time and be much mouth-watering taste. The proportion is 50% to 50% of sugar and fruit. The amount of sugar depends mainly on your taste. However,  the higher amount sugar content is, the longer the jam is preserved.

In common, many bread machines have Jam function, so you need to follow the instruction manual and recipes book. You can read the following steps:

General suggestion

-600-700 grams of fruit

-700-800 grams of sugar (it’s up for your taste, and the fruit).

-Pectin (depends on the fruit-up to 13g)

Pectin: is a substance to help jam set. Naturally, some fruits contain the high content of pectin. They include Gooseberries, Blackcurrants, Redcurrants, White currants, Blueberries. Whereas some do not, such as Strawberries, Raspberries, Tayberries. Therefore, you can measure to add pectin when making Jam by two ways:

-Using jam sugar with already prepared pectin.

-Buying pectin packages.

Personally, I think buying pectin and adding to the sugar is the cheaper way.

Step 1: Preparing the ingredients

In this step, the fruit need cleaning carefully. I suggest you should soak the fruit within 10 minutes in cold water and rinse carefully. However, some soft fruit such as strawberries, a suggestion for you is to rinse in gentle way. Try not to damage them! Other fruit like gooseberries may need topping and tailing, or even smashing into a pulp, before cooking.

Step 2: Cooking the jam

-Boiling the jars in a preheated 100-120 degrees within 20-30 minutes.

-Putting the lid into the boiled water for 5-10 minutes.

Step 4: Decanting the jam mixture

Ensure the jam cooked in the optimum conditions for a good set. When the jam is finished, it should quickly be put as possible into the sterilized jars. After cooling in 10-20 minutes, jam can be kept in the refrigerator for longer use. They will last for months.
